Good morning, It's Haystack.

Speaker A:

Burning man, the annual week long gathering in the Nevada Blackrock desert is this weekend.

Speaker A:

Well, it's, it's basically already kicked off.

Speaker A:

But participants create what's called Black Rock City.

Speaker A:

It's essentially a temporary metropolis and they, they aim to leave no trace.

Speaker A:

The festival of course, culminates in the symbolic burning of the large wooden effigy known as the Man.

Speaker A:

Unlike traditional music or arts festivals, there are actually no scheduled performers and no corporate sponsorship.

Speaker A:

Everything is built and shared by those in attendance.

Speaker A:

It's kind of an art spectacle and a social experiment.

Speaker A:

It draws more than 70,000 people each and every year who go to build community and showcase art and live in a spirit of creativity and collaboration.

Speaker A:

Although there have been some setbacks this week, a massive dust storm with winds over 45 miles an hour swept through, causing hours long delays, damaging lots of encampments, injuring some of the attendees.

Speaker A:

Heavy rains have turned parts of the player into muddy, just almost like a sandpit, a mud pit.

Speaker A:

So a lot of had to hunker down or adapt in unique ways.

Speaker A:

And the infamous, I hate saying this word, but it's what it's called, Orgy Dome collapsed during these storms.

Speaker A:

The structure was destroyed.

Speaker A:

Now safety crews said there were no major injuries.

Speaker A:

They're planning alternative domes, I guess, other places to host the piles.

Speaker A:
