Morning 6-Pack - Wild "Facts" About Stress

Published on: 6th November, 2026

72% of Americans say stress is just something they have to live with — that’s the headline and honestly, kinda depressing. I poke fun at the APA’s stress report (77% freaked about cost of living, 74% worried about the country’s future, 59% doing everything “right” and still falling behind) and ask who actually needs a Stress Awareness Day. Then I crack open the Morning 6-Pack: six quick, weird facts about stress served with sarcasm and coffee. You’ll get gems like short bursts of stress boosting your immune system, dangerous jobs stacking the stress deck (yes, even the poor soul cleaning up after a diddy party), experts suggesting a spouse-free life, and the stress-ball inventor’s silent judgment. We move fast, joke harder, roast the “add 45 minutes of yoga” crowd, and save the biggest surprise for the finish.

Takeaways:

  • I roasted National Stress Awareness Day — like seriously, who needs reminding that life’s basically stress soup these days?
  • The APA numbers are brutal: 77% stressed about cost of living, 74% worried about the country’s future, and 59% feel like they do everything right but still fall behind.
  • I pointed out that 72% of Americans say stress is just something they have to live with — we’ve basically normalized low-key panic.
  • Experts keep telling us to exercise, meditate, and sleep more, but I joked that adding more 'fix-it' tasks is peak ironic and itself stressful.
  • In my Morning 6-Pack I hit quirky stress facts — short stress bursts can help immunity, dangerous jobs cause tons of strain, and yes, the stress-ball inventor joke made me laugh — I’m not giving away the top punchline though.

Speaker A:

Good morning, it's Haystack.

Speaker A:

And earlier this week, I think it was Wednesday, was National Stress Awareness Day.

Speaker A:

And I kind of have a question.

Speaker A:

Who the hell needs to be made aware of stress?

Speaker A:

Is there someone out there going, you know, I've been clenching my jaw and losing my hair and waking up at three in the morning worried about my electric bill.

Speaker A:

I wonder what that's all about.

Speaker A:

The American Psychological association has released its annual stress report.

Speaker A:

And 77% of Americans say that the cost of living is a major source of stress.

Speaker A:

Another 74% stressed about the future of the country.

Speaker A:

59% Say they are doing everything right, but they are still falling behind.

Speaker A:

And that's kind of the American dream now.

Speaker A:

I mean, you work hard, you pay your bills, you do everything you're supposed to do and maybe someday you can afford the good toilet paper again.

Speaker A:

My favorite statistic though.

Speaker A:

72% Of Americans say stress is just something they have to live with, we've accepted stress at this point.

Speaker A:

Experts recommend exercise, meditation, getting more sleep, taking time for yourself.

Speaker A:

All great advice.

Speaker A:

Of course I work all day, can't afford a vacation and lie awake at night worrying about money.

Speaker A:

But sure, I'll just add 45 minutes of yoga to my schedule.

Speaker A:

You know what would really lower my stress?

Speaker A:

If people would stop giving me more things to do to lower my stress.

Speaker A:

That being said, I do love interesting and odd facts.

Speaker A:

Which brings me to this morning's morning six pack.

Speaker B:

Best way to start your day.

Speaker B:

These six jokes he's about to say listen up for old Haystack to crack open a morning six pack.

Speaker A:

All right, here we go.

Speaker A:

The top six interesting facts about stress.

Speaker A:

Number six, short bursts of stress can actually boost your immune system.

Speaker A:

Like when you're driving on i49 and a semi merges into your lane without looking.

Speaker A:

Five, it is pretty common in people with dangerous jobs to have stress.

Speaker A:

Talking of course about like soldiers and firefighters, the person who cleans up after a diddy party.

Speaker A:

Four, the top stress source for Americans is worrying about the future of the country and that country is Mexico.

Speaker A:

Three, Experts say that the best way to have a stress free life is to have a spouse free life.

Speaker A:

Two, the guy who invented the stress ball still cannot believe you were dumb enough to buy one.

Speaker A:

And the number one little known fact about stress, China has seen the highest rise in workplace stress in the entire world, probably from having to balance the job at the iPhone factory with grade school.
