Good morning, it's Haystack.
Speaker A:Wishing you a happy National Middle Child Day.
Speaker A:That's right, it is National Middle Child Day.
Speaker A:And we turn our attention to a recent poll that finds a third of us are a middle child or somewhere in the middle.
Speaker A:How does that work?
Speaker A:If you're the fourth out of five, are you, are you a middle child?
Speaker A:Or if there's five of you, is it only the third one that's a middle child?
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:30% of us are the oldest child, 26% the youngest, 32% somewhere in the middle, and 12% of us are an only child.
Speaker A:Now, with all these siblings, obviously you don't always get along.
Speaker A:And this new poll finds that one in four people are estranged from at least one brother or sister.
Speaker A:Whoo.
Speaker A:I mean, obviously siblings seem like they're the most likely to be estranged when it comes to familial relationships.
Speaker A:And it's partly because some of us do have a lot of.
Speaker A:I mean, if you've got six or seven siblings, there's a pretty good chance one or two of you aren't going to get along.
Speaker A:And it's just personal.
Speaker A:I mean, that's how it works.
Speaker A:In fact, when we look at the reasons we cut ties with a brother or sister, number one, reason, personality conflicts, you just don't vibe.
Speaker A:Number two, lies or betrayals.
Speaker A:Number three, manipulation.
Speaker A:Number four, conflict with other family members.
Speaker A:Maybe you've broken off into rival tribes in your family.
Speaker A:And number five, and this one I'm surprised is not higher because most of the people I know, they have tension in their family due to this conflicting values or lifestyles.
Speaker A:And basically politics is a very common word that you could insert their politics.
Speaker A:So the good news is is more people are more likely than not to be willing to reconcile with an estranged sibling.
Speaker A:Nearly half, 45% say that they would be happy to reconcile with an estranged sibling, 29% said no way, and the rest not too sure.
Speaker A:But again, it is National Middle Child Day and middle children get, get laughed about poked fun of a lot.
Speaker A:But I say happy National Middle Child Day.
Speaker A:In fact, I bet we can come up with six things that are great about being a middle child.
Speaker B:Well, gather round folks.
Speaker B:It's the time of day when we laugh and smile in a light hearted way.
Speaker B:Tune in for the giggles and let's kick back.
Speaker B:Here comes the fun.
Speaker B:It's the morning six pack.
Speaker A:This may be the hardest morning six pack I've ever had to come up with because I'm an only child.
Speaker A:But here are the top six great things about being a middle child.
Speaker A:Number six, you get your own bedroom.
Speaker A:Okay, well, technically, it's the addict, but it's all yours.
Speaker A:Number five, there's no pressure to get a hit during Little League games because your parents never come.
Speaker A:Number four.
Speaker A:If the Disneyland ride only seats four, guess who gets to sit with the strangers?
Speaker A:Number three, you become a good photographer, since you're always asked to take pictures of the rest of the family.
Speaker A:Number two, living off table scraps builds character.
Speaker A:That's absolutely true.
Speaker A:And the number one reason that it's great to be a middle child.
Speaker A:If someone cuts the hair off your younger sister's Barbie, mom and dad immediately blame your older brother since they forgot you exist.
Speaker A:Marcia, Marcia, Marcia.
