So if you're in northwest Arkansas and you don't channel surf, you may not know that I actually do a morning show on two different radio stations at the same time.

Speaker A:

A lot of times I'll discuss the same topic but do different silly songs depending on which station it's on.

Speaker A:

Because I do a country station and I do a 70s and 80s popping rock station.

Speaker A:

And I did a bit this morning all about the Gen Z rediscovery of hacky sack.

Speaker A:

And I did two different songs, and I'm gonna put them both in this haystacks so I can torture you with two different song parodies.

Speaker A:

My daddy always was a hippie man.

Never the kind who played sports with his hands.

Speaker B:

He would always hang in a parking lot at the mall.

Speaker A:

A lot of people would just laugh at them, but he never let the.

Speaker B:

Ribbon get to him.

Speaker B:

And he would tell me, son, never let that sack fall.

Speaker B:

You've got to hack a little and kick the sack.

Speaker B:

Sometimes you gotta hide around in the ma.

Speaker B:

There's gonna be people making fun of you.

Speaker B:

You may get mocked a little, and that's tough.

Speaker B:

Being a hacky sacker can be rough.

Speaker B:

But all that matters is to keep up that sack.

Speaker B:

You've got to kick a little sack.

Speaker A:

And of course, I needed do something on my 70s and 80s pop and rock station.

Speaker B:

Hacky sack.

Speaker A:

Gen Z has officially discovered hacky sacks, the little bean bag thing that every guy with frosted tips and cargo shorts used to kick around outside.

Speaker A:

And you can see multiple reports actually, actually asked one of my best friends who has a teenage daughter, and he goes, yeah, she was actually saying something the other day about wanting a hacky sack.

Speaker A:

They are exploding in popularity in high schools and in colleges across the country as kids form little circles before class, during lunch, after sports practice.

Speaker A:

Social media has, of course, turned this into a weirdly competitive thing, and some schools are even joking about their varsity hacky sack teams.

Speaker A:

But honestly, I kind of love this.

Speaker A:

For once, Gen Z found a trend that does not involve filming strangers in public or eating detergent pods.

Speaker A:

Researchers and parents say part of the appeal is that it gets kids off their phones and interacting face to face.

Speaker A:

It is cheap, it is social, it is outdoors, it is weirdly calming.

Speaker A:

And stores are selling out of hacky sacks because demand is so high.

Speaker A:

I love this.

Speaker A:

It's amazing.

Speaker A:

Somewhere there's a 47 year old guy with a soul patch whispering, finally, my time has come again.
