There is a new study that finds that owning a pet is getting seriously expensive.

On average, we spend $4,272 a year for each pet.

Now this is a dog or a cat.

The typical lifespan, the average lifespan, looking at all dogs and cats, about 12 years.

Speaker A:

So you're looking at this point at a little over $50,000 for the lifetime of one dog or one cat.

And that's before anything goes wrong.

That's assuming everything goes okay.

Speaker A:

When they eat your entire sock, they eat your entire purse too.

Because veterinary costs have jumped 43% in just the last five years.
