Good morning.
Speaker A:I'm Haystack, and Mother's Day is on the way.
Speaker A:It is Sunday, and 47% of Americans plan to spend Mother's Day celebrating to some degree.
Speaker A:At least 34% do not.
Speaker A:By comparison, 34% plan to celebrate Father's Day, while nearly 47% do not.
Speaker A:So it's essentially inverted.
Speaker A:54% Of Americans say they will get something for their mother or stepmother, 22% say for their wife, and 13% say for their daughter.
Speaker A:And the average spending set to be predicted to be $284 a person.
Speaker A:That is up quite a bit and will be a record spending on gifts.
Speaker A:Now, the poll also asked Americans who were raised by both a mother and a father about the parental roles in their house growing up.
Speaker A:Three out of four said their mother did more housework.
Speaker A:Half said she was more involved in their daily activities and that she was more affectionate.
Speaker A:And just over a third said they were closer to their mother.
Speaker A:Women were more likely to say they turned to their mother for advice, while men were more likely to credit their mother with being more affectionate.
Speaker A:But one of the kind of bigger surprises from the poll, men were also slightly more likely to say they were closer to their mother than women were.
Speaker A:There is a bit of an old idea that mothers and sons have a unique bond and that fathers and daughters have a unique bond.
Speaker A:And this poll seems to bear that to be at least partially true.
Speaker A:One of the great things about moms, though, is there are certain things that you will essentially only ever hear a mother say.
