Morning 6-Pack - Old-School Social Trends I’m Calling Back

Published on: 12th October, 2026

I’m counting down the Morning 6-Pack — six old-school social trends that I swear should make a comeback. We zip through stuff like gathering around the radio, rocking top hats like it ain’t a stage prop, writing Victorian-style notes instead of “u up?”, snapping pics with real cameras at concerts, and waking to the glorious, relentless clang of an old alarm clock. I keep it fast, snarky, and full of dumb jokes — the kind of banter that sounds like your goofy uncle at Thanksgiving. No spoilers on the big finale — you gotta listen for that one. Come for the nostalgia, stay for the laughs and the ridiculous takes.

Takeaways:

  • We spend the episode laughing at old-school social shifts — from tattoos becoming normal to travel-ball kid chaos — and I keep poking fun at how loud and weird progress got.
  • I hype bringing back gathering around the radio, cuz screens are killing vibes and family hangs need a glow-up.
  • We roast modern concert phone culture, missing real cameras and actual moments instead of Polaroids and blue-light ghosts.
  • I rant about snooze-button addiction on phones and loudly champion the merciless clang of double-belled alarm clocks.
  • We casually drop goofy throwbacks like top hats and Victorian-era love notes — classy nonsense that’s oddly tempting to bring back.

Speaker A:

Good morning and taste act.

Speaker A:

And older people online have been talking about the societal shifts that they have seen in their lifetime that no one really talks about, which is, I mean, kind of pretty.

Speaker A:

Grandpa, to be fair, we don't discuss this anymore, sir.

Speaker A:

Thanksgiving every year since:

Speaker A:

I don't think you get to say.

Speaker A:

Well, you don't.

Speaker A:

Look, some of these are actually pretty interesting when you get to thinking about it.

Speaker A:

Living together before marriage used to be absolutely scandalous.

Speaker A:

And now, of course, people move in together and the real scandal is finding out how much rent costs.

Speaker A:

Tattoos used to mean sailor biker or you went to prison and now your dental hygienist has a full sleeve.

Speaker A:

Going to the gym used to be kind of niche and now half the country has protein powder in the pantry.

Speaker A:

Kids playing sports used to mean they would practice on Tuesday and have a game on Saturday.

Speaker A:

Now it's travel ball, private lessons, specialized coaching, hotel rooms, tournament fees.

Speaker A:

Little League has private equity funding now if you want to participate anyway.

Speaker A:

And then there's communication.

Speaker A:

I mean, we used to just call people and call them to talk.

Speaker A:

That's how we used our phone.

Speaker A:

Now if somebody calls unexpectedly, your first thought is who died?

Speaker A:

Smoking disappeared from our restaurants, profanity moved in, and neighbors used to borrow tools.

Speaker A:

But now half of us know the neighbor's wi fi network better than their last name.

Speaker A:

A lot has changed.

Speaker A:

Some for the better, some worse for sure.

Speaker A:

And some of it's just gotten louder.

Speaker A:

And while a lot of this is older folks complaining, as old people tend to do, sometimes they really kind of have a point.

Speaker A:

See what I mean with today's list of the old school social trends that need to make a comeback.

Speaker B:

Well, gather round folks.

Speaker B:

It's the time of day when we laugh and smile in a light hearted way.

Speaker B:

Tune in for the giggles and let's kick back.

Speaker B:

Here comes the fun.

Speaker B:

It's the morning six pack.

Speaker A:

Here we go, the top six old school societal things that need to make a comeback according to yours truly.

Speaker A:

Number six, gathering around the radio.

Speaker A:

And that's not just because I work in the industry and I want to be able to buy a Chevy Silverado Black Widow SR edition with enhanced acceleration and power retractable roof panel.

Speaker A:

Not that at all.

Speaker A:

Number five, wearing top hats.

Speaker A:

I mean, when did top hats become the exclusive headwear of bad magicians or as they're also known, magicians?

Speaker A:

Number four, writing Victorian era letters.

Speaker A:

I mean, let's be honest, which sounds better, a text that says you up or a note that says, m', lady, dost thou wish to fornicate?

Speaker A:

Coming in at number three, taking pictures with actual cameras because nobody will spend an entire concert waving a Polaroid up in the air.

Speaker A:

Two, Waking up to an alarm clock.

Speaker A:

It's so easy to hit snooze on your iPhone.

Speaker A:

But the clang, clang, clang of a double belled monstrosity will not be denied.

Speaker A:

And the number one old school societal trend that absolutely should make a comeback.

Speaker A:

Drinking alcohol at work.

Speaker A:

That's pretty self explanatory.
