Morning 6-Pack - GTA6 Ruining The American Dream?

Published on: 16th October, 2026

GTA6 drops November 19 and Rockstar is hyping it as ultra-realistic — like you gotta buy gas, deal with debt, housing costs, and apparently the “modern American dream” is owning a house and paying off your credit cards. I’m not thrilled about video games turning into budget meetings — I play to steal Ferraris and blow stuff up, not to check my APR. So we busted out the Morning 6-Pack and counted down the top six things that feel like the American dream in 2026. We riff on stuff like a phone that actually folds because it’s new (not because you sat on it), ad-free Netflix, and finally having a ketchup bottle instead of a thousand McDonald’s packets. It’s quick, snarky, and full of dumb takes — we laugh at the economy so you don’t have to cry. Don’t worry, I’m not ruining the number-one thing here — you’ll have to listen for that mic-drop.

Takeaways:

  • I'm freaking out that GTA6 is trying to be 'real life' with gas stations and debt instead of pure escape.
  • Rockstar says the story tackles economic decline, inequality, debt, and housing affordability — and yeah, that hit a nerve.
  • I play games to steal Ferraris and jump buildings, not to worry about paying off credit cards at a 28% APR.
  • On the Morning 6-Pack we riff on the 2026 American dream — folding phones, ad-free Netflix, ketchup bottles — but I won't spoil the top gag.
  • The countdown is fast, sarcastic, and punchy; we toss quick jokes and leave the best punchline unspoiled so you actually have to listen.

Speaker A:

Good morning.

Speaker A:

I'm Haystack and I am going to probably catch some heat for this one because it's the most anticipated video game release of all time.

Speaker A:

But I got to talk about Grand Theft Auto 6.

Speaker A:

It comes out November 19th.

Speaker A:

We're five weeks away, basically, and millions of people have been waiting for years for this game.

Speaker A:

No exaggeration.

Speaker A:

And Rockstar keeps revealing how realistic this game is going to be.

Speaker A:

Keep bragging about how realistic it's going to.

Speaker A:

It's kind of starting to worry me.

Speaker A:

I mean, we've already heard that they're putting gasoline into the game and you have to refuel your vehicles.

Speaker A:

And now they say the storyline will deal with economic decline, inequality, debt, housing affordability, and the modern American dream.

Speaker A:

And Rockstar says the dream isn't necessarily becoming insanely rich.

Speaker A:

It's try to own a house, support your family, pay off your credit cards.

Speaker A:

That's the American dream.

Speaker A:

Paying off your credit cards, buddy.

Speaker A:

I'm playing video games because I don't want to think about all that stuff.

Speaker A:

The entire appeal of video games, especially games like Grand Theft Auto, is escapism.

Speaker A:

I'm gonna go steal a Ferrari, rob a bank, jump a motorcycle off a building.

Speaker A:

I guess now I'm going to steal the Ferrari because my credit card APR is 28%.

Speaker A:

What in the world?

Speaker A:

I Apparently Jason gets involved in bank robbery and drug trafficking partly because of his material circumstances.

Speaker A:

I mean, I guess that's not surprising.

Speaker A:

But we've essentially gone from crime is exciting to have you seen grocery prices?

Speaker A:

And so if this game gets any more realistic, you may go rob a bank and finally make that half million dollars and discover that's still not enough money to buy a three bedroom house in Vice City or Bentonville.

Speaker A:

So Grand Theft Auto 6 says that the modern American dream is just trying to own a home and pay off your credit cards.

Speaker A:

And again, that's not the game I want to play.

Speaker A:

But I will admit that considering today's tough economic times, that's a little bit of a fair statement.
